A set of measures is being developed to expand the base of the ship repair industry in the key ports of the Arctic

The Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic, together with the Government of Murmansk Oblast, is developing a set of measures aimed at expanding the base of the ship repair industry in the key ports of the Arctic, faced by the sanctions restrictions imposed by the Western countries.

As Alexei Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Far East and Arctic, noted during a working meeting with Andrey Chibis, Governor of Murmansk Oblast, the accelerated creation of ship repair infrastructure is a necessary condition for the further development of the Arctic fishing industry. High-quality ship repair services are necessary, inter alia, for the new fleet built under investment quotas, as well as for ships involved in the routes of the Northern Sea Route.

As one of the additional support measures, the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic will consider the proposal of the government of the Murmansk Oblast to exempt regional ship repair enterprises from VAT.

About 60 enterprises operate in the field of ship repair in the Murmansk Oblast. An additional basis for the development of ship repair in the region can be the 35th and 10th ship repair plants, as well as new residents of the ASEZ “Capital of the Arctic”: the companies “Antey” and “Norebo”. These companies are considering the development of additional capacities not only in the main profile—fish processing, but also in ship repair.
