Alexei Chekunkov, Minister for the Development of the Far East and Arctic, during his working trip to the Murmansk Oblast, inspected the construction site of the multi-purpose port of the STP Lavna in the Advanced Special Economic Zone “Capital of the Arctic”.

In the Murmansk Oblast, on the western coast of Kola Bay, a large transshipment complex with a capacity of 18 million tons per year is being created, as well as a railway infrastructure that will connect the port complex with the Lavna station.

“Builders and investors of the port reported that the project is moving according to plan. We expect that the facility will be commissioned by the end of 2023. The port will become one of the key projects for the Murmansk Oblast and the Russian economy, an important transport hub in the north and along the Northern Sea Route, which will allow more efficient export of various types of cargo,” said Alexei Chekunkov.

According to the Governor of the region Andrey Chibis, the volume of investments in the project is 60 billion rubles. “This is the anchor port for the entire Murmansk transport hub. The appearance of this port will provide gigantic opportunities for our region in terms of realizing the potential of a logistics hub,” the head of the region noted.

“In modern realities, the key advantages of the Lavna port are of particular importance; this is, first of all, the direct access to neutral waters. In addition, the multi-purpose port is deep water and ice-free. All this will contribute to the opening of new markets for export deliveries to the Asia-Pacific countries,” commented Evgeny Ditrikh, General Director of the STLC.
