The Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration under the President of the Russian Federation (Presidential Academy) hosted a round table meeting on the topic “Modernization of inefficient diesel, fuel oil and coal generation in remote and isolated areas of the Far North: problems and solutions.” The organizers were the Institute of Public Service and Management of the Presidential Academy, the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Government and Northern Affairs and the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC). During the round table, FEDC and ANO “EnergyNet” Center” made a report on creating conditions for the development of smart energy in hard-to-reach and isolated territories. According to Dmitry Kholkin, General Director of ANO “EnergyNet” Center”, the key conclusion of the work carried out is confirmation of the economic feasibility of implementing a business model, which involves combining interrelated issues of electricity and heat supply, as well as issues of increasing energy efficiency on the consumer side, in one investment contract. Based on the results of the expert discussions held within the round table, the proposed initiative of the FEDC and the “EnergyNet” Center” was unanimously supported and will be included in the list of recommendations of the Federation Council following the event.
