Yuri Trutnev: The creation of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor is a strategic objective not only for the Russian Arctic, but also for the entire global community

In Arkhangelsk, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev held a meeting on the progress of the comprehensive project "Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation and the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor."

“The formation of the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor is a strategic task not only for the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation, but also for the entire global community. In order to carry out this work and achieve the objectives set by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, clear and coordinated actions are required from federal executive bodies, constituent entities of the Russian Federation, and joint-stock companies whose sphere of activity includes these competencies. At a meeting last December, I instructed federal executive bodies, together with the “Rosatom” State Corporation, the “Roscosmos” State Corporation, and “Russian Railways”, to conduct an analysis of capabilities in assigned competencies—railway construction, dredging, and cargo handling—and prepare corresponding proposals. I'd like to hear how this work is progressing today," Yuri Trutnev said, opening the meeting.

The comprehensive project "Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation and the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor" is being developed in accordance with the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, issued following the International Arctic Forum "The Arctic: Territory of Dialogue" held in Murmansk. Also, at the President's direction, last week the Government submitted to the Security Council a draft updated Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation. The draft strategy stipulates that the comprehensive project will be the primary instrument for its implementation.

The comprehensive project includes four interconnected components: investment projects, logistics, infrastructure, and social services, including the development of key communities. Planning is structured across four time horizons—short-term, medium-term, long-term, and strategic—covering the entire period up to 2050. A portfolio of 271 major Arctic Zone development projects has been formed through 2035, with a total value of 32.4 trillion rubles: 93%, or 30.2 trillion rubles, are extra-budgetary investments, and only 2.3 trillion rubles are budgetary. These projects will create approximately 262,000 jobs.
