"I'd like to see the development of “Gorny Vozdukh” move faster. The initial plans of the Sakhalin Region administration seemed dynamic. Then there was a slowdown, but then work picked up. We need 100 kilometers of slopes. Then “Gorny Vozdukh” will truly become a leading resort in both Russia and the Asia-Pacific region. I think this is a great goal to strive for, as it will increase the influx of tourists. I was told that the number of trails has increased by 20%. That's good, but it's not the kind of fundamental change we'd like to see. The situation will fundamentally change when the trail lengths reach a point where a person can ski on different routes for a week. Then people will come to Sakhalin for the journey, not just to ski down a hill. I hope this will come true. They're currently promising 90 kilometers by 2029," said Yuri Trutnev.
“Gorny Vozdukh” remains the only year-round ski resort in the country located directly within the city limits. Currently, it boasts 28 trails with a total length of over 41 kilometers, served by five cable cars, including gondolas and chairlifts. Artificial snowmaking systems are installed on 13 kilometers of trails, and 11 kilometers are illuminated for night skiing. Investors implementing projects at “Gorny Vozdukh” ski resort benefit from preferential treatment under the “Sakhalin” ASEZ.
