Residents of Kunashir Island are developing a youth sports camp in the village of Yuzhno-Kurilsk on land received free of charge under the “Far Eastern Hectare” program. Ilya Kucherov, two-time European champion, winner and medalist of the World Cups and Russian championships in karate, became the ideological inspirer of the project and a participant in the “Hektare” program.

He told about how the sports base was created: “We attracted sponsors, built houses for the children and camp administration to live, equipped training grounds, built a canteen, and installed solar panels. And for several years now, we have been holding summer sports training camps every year - the camp is becoming more and more popular, people come to us to train not only from all over the Far East, but also from other regions, even from the Arctic. Here, in one of the most beautiful places in our country, on the "Far Eastern hectares", we teach future champions - the camp is called "Champion".

After 5 years of using the land, Ilya and his colleagues received "Far Eastern hectares" for free as property.

Now all efforts are concentrated on the development of the territory. In addition to solar panels, the plans for the future include installing a wind generator and connecting to the central power supply. It is also possible to expand the project, as well as to receive more participants.
