Yuri Trutnev: The Kuril Islands are Russia's forward post, and they need to be developed more actively

In Kurilsk on Iturup Island, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation - Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev held a meeting on the functioning of the preferential regime on the islands of the Kuril chain. There are two preferential regimes on the Kuril Islands. In 2017, the “Kuriles” ASEZ was created. For six years, eight residents were attracted with an investment of 11.6 billion rubles and about 2 thousand jobs were created. Investment projects are being implemented in the areas of tourism, fish processing, mariculture and others. Using the “Preferential treatment in the Kuril Islands”, 14 companies are implementing projects with a total investment of about 1 billion rubles. The main activities of the participants in the new regime are: the hotel business and the provision of tourism services, the processing and disposal of waste, which is important for preserving the unique nature of the Kuril Islands. “I think this is insufficient work to attract investors. The Kuriles are unique islands. This is a forward post of the Russian Federation. The development of these territories should be more active”, - Yuri Trutnev opened the meeting. The possibility of expanding the “Kuril Islands” ASEZ to promising areas of the Kuril Islands, lifting the restriction in the Tax Code on the possibility of implementing new projects by representatives of existing businesses or their affiliates under the “preferential regime in the Kuril Islands” and extending the “Preferential regime in the Kuril Islands” to individual entrepreneurs were discussed.
