Yuri Trutnev: main task of the authorities is to ensure people's safety

Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Presidential Plenipotentiary Representative in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev held a meeting on the aftermath of the seismic event in Kamchatka Region.

"We will discuss the results of the earthquakes that occurred in mid-2025. The issue is the seismic strength and stability of buildings. We need to understand how many of them in the region require reinforcement and restoration. The actions of all federal and regional executive authorities must be focused on the primary goal: ensuring public safety. And right now, we cannot yet say that safety is fully ensured," Yuri Trutnev opened the meeting.

On July 30, a magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck the Pacific Ocean, the first in 72 years, triggering a magnitude 6.7 earthquake in the Avacha agglomeration. Thanks to the coordinated work of emergency services, no casualties were reported, but significant damage was caused to housing and critical social infrastructure.

The meeting discussed the issue of relocating residents of residential buildings damaged by the seismic event. The rapid restoration of social infrastructure damaged by the seismic event was also discussed.

"I ask that this work be given the utmost attention. This is a direct responsibility to the people of those involved. The President has issued relevant instructions. They must be carried out. People must be safe," Yuri Trutnev concluded the meeting.
