Speech by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation – Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev at a meeting of the President of Russia with members of the Government of the Russian Federation

Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich! Dear colleagues! The Arctic zone of the Russian Federation is a territory of strategic importance for economic development and national security.

Thanks to the decisions you made, Vladimir Vladimirovich, in 2020, the Arctic created the most attractive conditions for investment, including the world's largest preferential zone, covering 5 million square kilometers. Over the past five years, more than a thousand new projects with state support have been launched in the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation.

The total volume of investments planned in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation over the next ten years exceeds 30 trillion rubles.

The development of the Arctic is directly linked to the Arctic projects of major Russian companies— “Gazprom”, “Gazprom Neft”, “Norilsk Nickel”, “Novatek”, “Lukoil”, “PhosAgro”, and others. Their products form the backbone of the cargo base for the Northern Sea Route (NSR) and the Trans-Arctic Transport Corridor. Over the past ten years, cargo traffic along the NSR has increased from 4 million tons to almost 38 million tons…

All Arctic development work is being conducted in accordance with your approved Decrees on the Fundamentals of State Policy in the Arctic and the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation. At your direction, a draft updated strategy has been prepared, considering the geopolitical changes that have occurred over the past five years. The Fundamentals of State Policy and the Strategy have been combined into a single document—the Strategy for the Development of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation to 2050.

Efforts to develop the Russian Arctic zone will continue.”
