On November 12, Deputy Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic Vitaly Altabaev delivered a report on the prospects for developing cooperation between the Russian Far East and the Republic of India at the 25th meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Indian Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation in Delhi. The Russian delegation was headed by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov, while the Indian side was chaired by the Minister of External Affairs of the Republic of India Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. The parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade and investment, energy, science, agriculture, transport, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, education and culture, as well as sustainable development. Relations between Russia and India continue to develop steadily in all areas, including in terms of implementing specialized projects in the Far Eastern Federal District. "Cooperation with the Republic of India is one of the priorities of the international activities of the Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic. Over the past 5 years, trade between the Far East and India has doubled and amounted to $1.6 billion in 2023. Positive dynamics are maintained - over the first 8 months of this year, trade turnover has grown by 75% and reached $1.5 billion. And we are faced with the task of increasing and diversifying mutual trade," said Deputy Minister of the Russian Far East Development Vitaly Altabaev. Particular attention at the meeting was paid to the development of bilateral scientific and technological partnership, including in the fields of energy, engine building and microelectronics, chemistry, metallurgy, digital technologies, railway engineering, as well as in the field of space exploration. "The Government of the Russian Federation is implementing a new large-scale project in Primorye - an innovative scientific and technological center on Russky Island. The construction of the first buildings is already being completed. We propose to discuss the development of scientific and technological cooperation on this site in Vladivostok in May next year together with interested Indian organizations and representatives of the scientific community of our countries," said the Deputy Head of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East. The meeting also discussed cooperation in humanitarian areas, in particular in the field of higher education, as well as in the field of culture and tourism.
