On March 2, the VIII International Conference "The Arctic: Sustainable Development" began its work in the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation. The event was attended by First Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic Gadzhimagomed Huseynov.

During the plenary session "Sustainable Development of the Arctic Regions of the Russian Federation", the participants discussed key investment projects for the development of the Russian Arctic, the development of entrepreneurship, raised issues of the Russian Arctic Development Strategy, the creation of an integrated system of information support for national interests, conditions for attracting investments to the region, energy supply and energy independence of the Arctic as the basis for sustainable development, training of highly qualified personnel for the development of the Arctic.

Gadzhimagomed Huseynov spoke about the work of the ministry in the Arctic territories in the main areas of the economy and the social sphere: “The state support mechanisms created in 2020 made it possible to attract investors to 634 investment projects with an investment volume of 1.6 trillion rubles. About 35,000 new jobs will be created, of which about 10,000 jobs have already been created.”

In 2022, a decision was made to build an energy infrastructure in the "Capital of the Arctic" ASEZ. This decision will provide at least 3 large projects (Tuloma Marine Terminal, Rusatom Cargo, Udarnik Terminal) with the required capacity of about 50 MW and will attract more than 73 billion rubles of private investment.

Of strategic importance for the Russian Arctic is the Northern Sea Route, which opens up a shorter sea route between the west and east of Russia, and in the future a more profitable trade route between Europe and Asia.

“In 2022, a comprehensive plan for the development of the Northern Sea Route until 2035 was approved,” said Gadzhimagomed Huseynov. - The plan includes 152 events. This is the most detailed document in the entire modern history of the Northern Sea Route, which contains measures for the construction of 10 icebreakers, 141 ice-class transport vessels, 14 ports and terminals, the launch of 12 satellites into orbit, and the construction of 4 emergency rescue centers of the Russian Emergencies Ministry.”
