A press conference dedicated to key areas of development in the Far East and the Arctic was held in Moscow

On February 17, 2026, TASS hosted a press conference dedicated to the XI International Scientific and Practical Conference "Far East and Arctic: Sustainable Development," which will take place on March 11–12 at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation. The conference is supported by the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, and the Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and Arctic. The Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC) and the Federal Autonomous Institution "Vostokgosplan" are traditionally active participants in the event.

The press conference was attended by Sakhamin Afanasyev, Chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee, Senator, and Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Self-Government, and Northern Affairs; Anton Basansky, State Secretary and Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and Arctic; Irina Gekht, Governor of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug; Sergey Abramov, First Deputy Chairman of the Khabarovsk Krai Government; Yevgeny Vlasov, Head of the Kamchatka Krai Representative Office to the Russian Government; and Tamara Mordasova, Executive Director of the Conference.

Opening the meeting, Sakhamin Afanasyev emphasized that the development of the entire country today depends on the development of the Far East and the Arctic. He noted significant improvements in quality of life, the emergence of new businesses and infrastructure, and population growth in the Far East. At the same time, he noted a number of pressing development issues in the macroregion that need to be addressed. The XI International Scientific and Practical Conference "Far East and Arctic: Sustainable Development" aims to facilitate their resolution. The speaker called on all interested specialists to actively participate in the event.
