The “Far Eastern Yards” program (previously the “1000 Yards” program) has been implemented in the Far Eastern Federal District since 2022. Its goal is to create comfortable, safe and modern courtyard spaces in the region's populated areas. The program is financed by the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East using the Unified Presidential Subsidy. Following the 2023 Eastern Economic Forum, the Russian President ordered the program to be extended until 2026. In 2025, during the project's implementation, 128 courtyard areas will be improved in the Far Eastern Federal District for a total of 1 billion rubles. Activities to build beautiful and comfortable courtyards are included in master plans and other strategic documents for the development of Far Eastern cities.
Over the three years of the program's implementation, a large number of public spaces adjacent to residential buildings in cities and towns in the Far Eastern Federal District have been improved for the better. In 2022, 1,245 courtyards were improved for a total of 6,994 million rubles; in 2023, 581 courtyards for a total of over 3.5 billion rubles; and in 2024, 267 courtyards for a total of 2,171 million rubles.
Deputy Head of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East Elvira Nurgalieva notes that before the start of work on modernizing courtyard areas, surveys of local residents are conducted. Taking into account their wishes, sidewalks and driveways are repaired, conditions are created for people with limited mobility, work is carried out to green courtyards, sports equipment is installed, playgrounds, mini-parks, and workout zones are built.
