Participants of the “Discover the Far East” forum in Khabarovsk were told about the development strategy of Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island

Following the negotiations between the President of the Russian Federation and the Chairman of the People's Republic of China in May 2024, a Unified Concept for the Development of Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island was signed. With the opening of the new border crossing, tourism will become one of the main drivers of the island's development. Participants in the expert session “Bolshoy Ussuriysky: a strategic island for the development of Russian-Chinese relations,” which was held as part of the business program of the III All-Russian Tourism Forum in Khabarovsk, discussed what is planned to be done on the territory. The discussion brought together representatives of government bodies, development institutions, the tourism industry, business and public organizations. They shared their vision of the further development of the island and presented proposals for the future master plan. “The concept of joint development of the island envisages the development of the territory for the purpose of developing an international transport corridor between China and the Russian Federation, as well as the tourist and recreational potential of the territory. In June 2024, following a working trip to Khabarovsk Region by the head of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, Alexey Chekunkov, a decision was made to expand the boundaries of the “Khabarovsk” priority development area both to the island itself and to the adjacent territories of Khabarovsk Regioni on the main coast. The planned investment projects will be aimed at creating logistics complexes and the primary development of tourism and recreational complexes (hotels, hostels, restaurants), as well as the construction of business infrastructure.
