The ethnocenter "Krepostitsa Ostrovnaya" has opened in Bilibino. The project is being implemented by the recipient of the "Far Eastern hectare" Alexander Grigoriev. The ethnocenter has several recreation areas where guests can get acquainted with the culture and history of local peoples, their way of life and traditions, and the history of the first Cossack settlements in Chukotka. Alexander Grigoriev spoke about his experience of participating in the "Hectare" program, as well as about plans for developing the project to the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC).
The key idea of the project is to tell about the coexistence of the indigenous inhabitants of the north and the settlers, about the history of the migration of the Cossacks. A couple of centuries ago they built a small fortress in the area of the village of Ostrovnoye, where the famous Anyui Fair was later held.
