Yuri Trutnev chaired a meeting of the State Commission on Arctic Development

The State Commission meeting agenda included issues related to the construction of high-ice-class cargo vessels; the acquisition and construction of dredging vessels for the Northern Sea Route; the formation of a satellite constellation for remote sensing of the Earth; the elimination of accumulated environmental damage in the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation; and new technologies for winter road construction.

"We are holding regular meeting of the State Commission on Arctic Development. Today's meeting is taking place at Bauman Moscow State Technical University. I would like to thank Rector Mikhail Valerievich Gordin for his hospitality. There are five issues on the agenda. The first is the construction of a high-ice-class cargo fleet. Major production projects are currently underway in the Arctic, which will require at least 50 additional such vessels by 2030. The current order book at the Zvezda shipbuilding complex includes the construction of 26 transport vessels for cargo transportation along the Northern Sea Route. Three more tankers are currently under construction, with delivery scheduled for 2029. Clearly, this is not enough to meet shippers' needs. There are plans to create new capacity in the Far East and modernize the existing shipyard in St. Petersburg. Let's discuss how this work is progressing," said Yuri Trutnev, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District, opening the meeting.

Mikhail Gordin, Rector of Bauman Moscow State Technical University and Chairman of the Presidium of the Scientific Expert Council of the State Commission for Arctic Development, emphasized that, in the context of the commitment to technological sovereignty and leadership, it is especially important that scientific and technological advances address practical, utilitarian challenges.
