Trails of the Far East: new routes for travel and tourism development

The program for the development of active tourism through the creation of safe hiking routes was discussed by participants in the expert discussion " Far East Trails" at the presentation zone of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation within the framework of the 10th Eastern Economic Forum. The " Far East Trails " project was launched in 2024 by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation - Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev.

The "Far East Trails" project is being implemented as part of the presidential national project "Tourism and Hospitality Industry". At the moment, there are 18 eco-routes in 9 Far Eastern regions. Among them: four trails in Kamchatka and the Zabaikalsky Region, two in Buryatia, Primorye and Khabarovsk Region, and one trail in the Amur and Magadan regions, Chukotka and Yakutia. To sel ect the projects, the regions prepared applications based on 40 criteria: fr om demand among residents to the presence of historical and natural sites, as well as prospects for all-season use.

In the next two years, it is planned to create and develop 118 km of tourist trails: visitor centers, observation platforms, recreation areas and improvement facilities will appear. 1.7 billion rubles have been allocated for the implementation of the projects as part of the Unified Presidential Subsidy. The new trails will allow tourists to discover the volcanoes of Kamchatka, the Shantar Islands, Baikal, national parks and petroglyphs, as well as small towns and ethnographic sites.
