Your own home on a “Hectare”: a program helps Far Easterners solve their housing problems

Anastasia Gabdulvagapova, a resident of the Republic of Buryatia, built a house on a "Far Eastern hectare" with her own hands. She chose land for her family nest in her home village of Khoronkhoy in the Kyakhta District. As the first participant in the "Hectar" program in the district, Anastasia is now teaching fellow villagers how to choose the right land for a home. She shared her assessment of the "Hectar" program with the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC).

"I used to live with my parents, but after having a child, I started seriously thinking about my own home. Back then, the 'Far Eastern Hectares' program had just been launched for Buryatia, and all the media were advertising that you could choose land and get up to a hectare for free. I looked it up—and sure enough, there was a plot in Khoronkhoy, right next to my parents'. I contacted the administration and became the first recipient in the district," says Anastasia Gabdulvagapova.

"The “Hectare” program has become a solution for ordinary people—it allows them to obtain land quickly and free of charge. Just go and do it: whether you want a house or a farm. I received land and started building a house—and then my neighbors started choosing, asking questions. Now that we have our own place, we want to use the program again and get an additional plot," she added.
