A record number of schoolchildren from all over Russia took part in the first round of the “Closer to the Far” Olympiad

The first round of the 9th All-Russian Interdisciplinary Olympiad "Closer to the Far (East)" has concluded. More than 1,223,000 people participated—schoolchildren in grades 1–11 and first- and second-year students from 9th-grade vocational education institutions (VEIs) from all regions of the Russian Federation. This is a new record for the project: last year, approximately 1.2 million participants completed the first stage of the Olympiad. The "Closer to the Far" Olympiad is organized by the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC), Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU), and the educational platform Uchi.ru.

"Closer to the Far (East)" is a scientific and educational project designed to introduce schoolchildren from all regions of the country to the unique potential of the Far East. Participants in the Olympiad will have the opportunity to explore the history, culture, geography, economics, biodiversity, international cooperation, and social development of the Far East through interdisciplinary learning. The project promotes a holistic understanding of Russia's strategic region among young people and increases interest in its development.

The second round will be held online from January 27 to February 3, 2026. Students in grades 10-11 and first- and second-year vocational education students who successfully completed the first round are eligible to participate. Participants will be required to complete open-ended assignments and will have 72 hours to complete the cases. The results of the second round will be published on the FEFU website.

The third, in-person round of the Olympiad will take place from April 13 to 17, 2026, in Vladivostok on the FEFU campus.

All Olympiad participants will receive certificates or diplomas depending on their results, and teachers will receive letters of appreciation. Participants in the second round, as well as winners and runners-up of the third round, will be eligible to receive up to 10 additional points toward their individual achievements when applying to FEFU and the Olympiad's partner universities.
