The Committee of the Federation Council discussed the implementation of the Development Strategy of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation

On January 22, an extended meeting of the Federation Council Committee on Federal Structure, Regional Policy, Local Self-Government and Northern Affairs was held on the issue “On the preparation of the “government hour”. At the meeting, the Head of the Ministry of Eastern Development Alexey Chekunkov spoke with the topic “On the progress of implementation of the Fundamentals of State Policy of the Russian Federation in the Arctic for the period until 2035.” Particular attention was paid to the social development of the Arctic regions, issues of relevance and effectiveness of tools tested in the Far East and applied in the Arctic. The largest special economic zone in the world, the Russian Arctic, has been created, priority development territories have been launched with the full range of benefits that are possible in Russia. About 1.8 trillion rubles have already been attracted through investment agreements, more than 400 billion rubles have actually been invested, 800 projects and 14 thousand jobs have been created. During the meeting, issues of development of the Northern Sea Route were discussed. In August 2022, the Russian government approved the NSR development plan until 2035. The plan provides for 155 activities aimed at developing the cargo base, cargo, icebreaker and rescue fleet, transport and security infrastructure. In 2023, a new historical record was set in Russia - the 36 millionth ton was transported.
