Project office to attract investors to the Far East’s fishery complex will be created by the FEDC and VARPE

The Russian Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC) and All-Russian Association of Fishery Enterprises, Entrepreneurs, and Exporters (VARPE) have signed an agreement on strategic cooperation. The parties agreed to work together to increase the investment attractiveness of the Far East’s fishery complex, as well as to assist in the implementation of investment projects by members of the association. The document was signed by Deputy General Director for the Development of the Fishery Complex of the FEDC Ivan Novikov and President of VARPE German Zverev. The parties agreed to establish a project office that will develop common solutions and represent joint positions in the government of the Russian Federation, relevant departments, and other government agencies. The FEDC and VARPE will also publish joint research and publications concerning the fishery complex of the Far Eastern Federal District. “The history of the development and land reclamation of the Far East is inextricably linked with fishing. Today, the fishing industry for the Far East isn’t only a contribution to the economy, it is a locomotive for the development of related industries, an essential factor in socio-demographic processes, and the basis of a way of life. Seventeen of the region’s settlements, where city- and village-forming enterprises are located, are entirely dependent on the industry. Over 50,000 people from the Far East are engaged in fishing. The fishing industry’s contribution to the gross regional product of the Far Eastern Federal District is estimated at 15%. The strategic objectives of VARPE and the FEDC are the same - we are striving to create a favorable climate to attract investments and economic development of the Far East, to secure the population by creating new jobs, increasing the volume of production of competitive products, and increasing the income of both the budgets of the regions and the enterprises themselves. I am certain that by combining our efforts and skills, we’ll be able to achieve the goals set,” said VARPE President German Zverev. FEDC Deputy General Director Ivan Novikov noted that one of the corporation’s priorities is to support existing investors and attract new individuals in order to implement projects in the fishing industry in the regions of the Far Eastern Federal District. He additionally emphasized the importance of joint work with the association representing the interests of entrepreneurs. “It is important for the Corporation to hear representatives of the industry in the Far East, to create comfortable conditions for them to develop business in the macro-region, especially on the eve of the second stage of the investment quota program. In connection with this, the work of the FEDC with VARPE - the leading association of the fishing industry in Russia - whose share of participants in the annual national catch of marine resources is more than 90%, is of great importance,” Ivan Novikov added. The Russian Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC) is a single institution for the development of the Far East and the Arctic Zone of Russia. The corporation is the management company of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation, the Free Port of Vladivostok, and the advanced special economic zones in the Far Eastern and Arctic regions of Russia. The FEDC additionally oversees the implementation of social programs and initiatives to improve the living standards of the population in the Far Eastern Federal District and AZRF - Hectare, Far Eastern Mortgage, Arctic Draft, Muravyov-Amursky 2030, etc. The All-Russian Association of Fishery Enterprises, Entrepreneurs, and Exporters is one of the five most influential associations of the fishing industry in the world and is the leader in Russia. VARPE unites 495 organizations in the fishing industry, both directly and associated with it via industry associations. VARPE’s share of the national catch of marine resources is over 90%.
