During a working visit to the Magadan Region, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation and Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yury Trutnev visited a plant under construction in Magadan for processing and refining fish oil with further production of encapsulated fish oil saturated with Omega-3.

The project by the Sea Wolf Group is being implemented in the area of the berths of the port fleet of the Magadan Sea Port. The cost of construction and commissioning of the plant is 1.6 billion rubles. In addition, the construction of a large-tonnage trawler worth 6.5 billion rubles has begun to provide production with raw materials. About 1.2 billion rubles have already been invested in the plant’s construction.

The commissioning of the plant is scheduled for October. The building’s technical readiness level is already over 50%. All of the foundations have been poured, the installation of the metal structures of the building has been completed, work on the cladding of the building with sandwich panels is being completed, preparatory earthworks have been completed for the installation of sewer communications, as well as hot and cold water supply, and gas supply.

The ship with equipment for the plant is already on its way to Magadan. The reception and unloading of equipment are scheduled for May 25, and installation of equipment will begin in early June. The production site will include two lines - a line for the refining (purification) of fish oil obtained in the production of fish meal, and a line for the manufacture of re-esterified fish oil (rTG) with over 70% Omega-3 saturation. The production line for re-esterified fish oil (rTG) has no analogues in Russia. The total sales volume on both the Russian and international market will be about 2,200 tons per year (2,000 tons of refined fat and 200 tons of rTG).

Yuri Trutnev asked if the plant under construction differs from the plant already operating in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky for the production of Omega-3 from wild Kamchatka salmon, whose work the Deputy Prime Minister was acquainted with a few days ago.

“The production technology compares favorably with what is being done in Kamchatka. The Magadan fish oil processing plant will consist of two lines, one identical to the Kamchatka plant, the second will allow the production of raw materials for medicines according to international standards. The re-esterified triglycerides produced on it are three times more effective than usual Omega-3s. At the next stage, the plant intends to open the production of jelly candy and dietary supplements based on local raw materials, including berries. Negotiations are now underway with the Institute of Nutrition to support the project from the scientific side,” reported President of the Magadan Fisheries Association Mikhail Kotov.

Initially, the project will provide jobs for 30 people at the fish oil processing plant with the prospect of expansion. It is also planned to increase the number of jobs at the expense of the trawler crew.

As part of the project, liquefied natural gas will be used for production for the first time in the Magadan Region, supplied in tank containers with a regasification complex.
