Attraction and Retention of Human Resources in the Russian Arctic Zone Discussed at SPIEF 2022

From 15 to 18 June, St. Petersburg hosts the 25th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. On the first day of the event, a panel discussion on the topic of “Human resource as a factor in the Arctic development: how to foster and retain personnel” took place at the stand of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic.

According to the report by the Arctic Center for Strategic Studies on the demand for personnel in the Russian Arctic, by 2035, more than 182,000 new jobs in 64 specialties are slated to be created, 140,000 of which will be generated within 198 investment projects while another 42,000 will be provided within existing businesses run by 627 employers. The participants of the panel exchanged views on how to consolidate the efforts of the higher education, businesses and government authorities to provide Arctic projects with specialists that would occupy those 182,000 jobs and perform their duties in an efficient way.
