"Priority 2030. Far East": ZabSU is establishing a center of excellence in the rare earth industry of the Far East

At the Eastern Economic Forum held in Vladivostok in September 2025, the President of the Russian Federation ordered the preparation of a plan for the development of the rare earth industry. In accordance with the President's instructions, the "Metals of the Future" project has been launched at Transbaikal State University (ZabSU). The project aims to develop technologies for extracting rare earth elements from energy and mining waste, as well as digitally modeling their extraction from man-made deposits. The project is being implemented as part of the "Priority 2030. Far East" program. The Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC) oversees the implementation of the university development program in the Far Eastern Federal District.

"The Far East is becoming a platform for scientific and industrial projects that shape the future of the entire country. Thanks to the 'Priority 2030: Far East' program, the region's universities have the opportunity not just to develop, but to implement projects of strategic, national significance. "The ZabSU "Metals of the Future" project is a clear example of how researchers' ideas are transformed into solutions that ensure Russia's technological sovereignty. "This is a contribution to fulfilling the President's instructions and creating new growth opportunities for an economy based on advanced technologies," emphasized Elvira Nurgalieva, Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and Arctic.
