Pomorye will receive a new impetus for development during the implementation of the master plan of the Kemsko-Belomorskaya agglomeration
In the Republic of Karelia, the implementation of the master plan for the development of the Kemsko-Belomorskaya agglomeration for the period up to 2035 has begun, linking the Kemsky and Belomorsky districts with a population of 24.3 thousand people. The document forms a strategy for the development of the territory as a logistics hub of the White Sea and a promising center for Arctic tourism. This will increase the gross urban product by more than two times. The master plan is being implemented with the participation of the Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (FEDC), as well as the “Information and Analytical Center of the State Commission for the Development of the Arctic”.
Today, the economy of the Kemsko-Belomorskaya agglomeration is based on logistics, fishing and agriculture. The key employer in the region is the railway complex, as well as aquaculture and processing enterprises. At the same time, the Territory faces systemic challenges: a limited labor market, worn-out communal infrastructure and a high volume of dilapidated housing. The master plan forms a response to these challenges through the comprehensive development of infrastructure, the creation of new economic niches and the improvement of the quality of the urban environment.
The key projects of the Kemsko-Belomorskaya agglomeration master plan are focused on turning Pomorye into a strategic logistics hub and center for Arctic tourism, modernizing communal infrastructure, developing the social sphere and creating conditions for the growth of small and medium-sized businesses.
