In the Yakutia Advanced Special Economic Zone the first phase of one of the Republic of Sakha’s largest transport infrastructure investment projects, a cargo transshipment terminal in Nizhniy Bestyakh, has now been completed. The terminal has a rated transshipment capacity of 2 million tons of cargo a year. The construction of the terminal was initiated by the Lensk United Inland Navigation Company (LUINC). The project is being implemented under an agreement with the Russian Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC). Total investment in the project will amount to approximately 3.2 billion rubles, and once all phases of the project are complete it will provide approximately 300 jobs. 657.5 million rubles have already been invested in the project, 83 new jobs have been created and 61 workers have been recruited.

The terminal is located at the intersection of the main transport routes in the region: the Lena, Kolyma and Amga highways, the Amur-Yakutia Railway and a number of river transportation routes. Work on the construction of the transshipment terminal will continue. By 2023 the construction of railway infrastructure at the terminal site will be completed, and this will be followed by the construction of an oil-loading facility.

The following phases of the project’s implementation will involve the construction of a further 200 meters of quay along the river and a facility for the storage of loose materials such as coal, sand, gravel and crushed stone, which will enable the development of new opportunities to promote trading activities in the region and open up new markets in the region for companies engaged in the extractive industries.
