Prospects for the development of cinema in the Far East were discussed at the “New Vector” forum in Buryatia

In Ulan-Ude, as part of the business program of the regional cinema forum "New Vector. Far East", a plenary session "New Frontiers on the Map of Russian Cinema. Prospects and Limitations" was held. The plenary session was attended by the Head of the Republic of Buryatia Alexey Tsydenov; the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Buryatia Soelma Dagayeva; the Executive Director of the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC) for social development Gasan Gasanbalaev; representatives of government bodies, development institutions, cinematographic, cultural and public organizations from Moscow, cities of Siberia and the Far East. The session was moderated by Dmitry Yakunin, the head of the Regional Cinematography Forum "New Vector. Far East". The participants of the plenary session discussed current issues of film production in the Far East, training of personnel for the industry and measures of state support for film producers in the region. Gasan Gasanbalaev, Executive Director of the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC) for social development, noted in his speech that infrastructure is being developed in the Far Eastern Federal District to support film producers. "Development institutes are working to ensure that the film industry in the Far East develops. The first is the creation of preferential conditions for film production and the development of infrastructure: film studios, stocks of available equipment, and the expansion of the rebate system. Thus, the Yakutsk master plan provides for the creation of the largest full-cycle multifunctional film studio, which is planned to be built by 2027. The second is the creation of major event-related news items through holding specialized industry festivals and events in the region. In particular, the problems of film production were discussed in detail by regional and federal experts at the recent Forum of Creative Industries in Khabarovsk; within the framework of the Arctic Startup Expedition project, which was held with the support of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and the FEDC, competitions were held in the Cinema and Animation categories. Their winners received 1 million rubles each to support their projects, and now continue to make films and animated series. The third area is training specialists. A number of steps have already been taken to solve the problem of personnel shortage for the Far East film industry: this year, the Arctic State Institute of Culture and Arts and FEFU are launching a training program in the field of cinema; work is underway to open branches of major federal creative universities in the Far East: VGIK, GITIS and the Shchukin School. “Schools of creative industries are opening, including on the basis of creative clusters established with the participation of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Far East Development Corporation,” noted Gasan Gasanbalaev.
