At the EEF 2026, the increasing domestic demand for fish and the culture of seafood consumption among children were discussed

The XI Eastern Economic Forum 2026 held a session titled "Caring for Future Generations: Creating a Baby Food Industry in the Far East." Participants discussed healthy eating habits, developing children's tastes for fish and seafood, and outlined key development prospects for the fisheries and food industry.

The main agenda included increasing domestic fish consumption potential through government support for businesses, as well as government regulation of the quality of baby food products. The session was organized by the All-Russian Association of Fishery Enterprises, Entrepreneurs, and Exporters with the support of the Ministry for the Development of the Far East and Arctic.

The Far East produces 75% of Russia's fish and seafood, placing Russia fourth in catch volume, yet consumption remains lower than that of the leading countries—South Korea, Japan, and Spain. The region is completely self-sufficient in fish, but most of the catch is exported. The insufficient selection of fish products in the baby food segment, especially for young children, coupled with the lack of processing facilities at the fishing sites, significantly reduces the growth rate of the domestic market. This was stated at the session by Vitaly Altabaev, First Deputy Minister for the Development of the Far East and Arctic.
