The Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (FEDC) took part in a discussion club meeting dedicated to the problems and prospects for the development of mixed generation in the Arctic with the help of mini-hydropower plants. The event took place at the site of the Arctic Development Project Office. Representatives of energy companies, authorities and research institutions shared their views on this direction of energy development.

Maxim Gubanov, head of the energy and housing and communal services department of the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, believes that if the state stimulates the use of renewable energy sources, modern electricity generation technologies can be actively used in hard-to-reach remote Arctic territories.

The discussion was also attended by representatives of the “Kola Scientific Center” of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the National Agency for Energy Saving and Renewable Energy Sources, “RusHydro”, JSC “Rusatom Service”, “Sakhaenergo” and the Interregional Project Office of the REC “Sever”.

During the event, the experts decided to create a working group on mini-hydro power plants in the Russian Arctic.
