The forum in Ulan-Ude discussed training personnel for creative industries

Training for creative industries was discussed at the "Created in the Far East: From Content to Capital" forum, which is taking place in Ulan-Ude from May 21 to 23. The event is organized by the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC), and the Government of the Republic of Buryatia.

The strategic session "Education for Creative Industries: Who, What, and How to Teach" brought together government officials, university representatives, creative professionals, and students. The session was moderated by Mikhail Krivopal, Vice Rector for Continuing Education at FEFU, and the key expert was Gasan Gasanbalaev, Deputy Director General for Social Development at the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation.

According to experts, a new model of higher education is currently being implemented in the country, and pilot universities have been identified. The technological landscape in creative industries is changing rapidly, so a micro-skills format is needed—a basic core plus continuing professional education programs. Real businesses in the sector should also be involved in the educational process.

Industrial design and other new fields remain fee-based for now; session participants proposed including them in state-funded places through the mechanisms of the new higher education model. It was also noted that traditional creative universities are often excluded from the discourse of "creative industries," despite being the guardians of cultural heritage and training specialists for 16 economic sectors.
