Chita hosted a strategic session "Development of mining education in the Far East in the face of new challenges." Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov, Governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory Alexander Osipov, representatives of the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, as well as higher educational institutions and scientific organizations, representatives of the Far Eastern Federal District, the largest enterprises in the mining industry of the Far East, took part in the session.

During the first day of the strategic session, an agreement was signed between the FEDC and leading regional universities on the creation of a consortium "Leaders of Mining Education - the Far East". It included the universities of Chita, Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Yakutsk and Magadan.

The purpose of the consortium is to integrate educational, scientific organizations, interested companies in the mining, energy and other industries in order to develop scientific research and training programs for engineering personnel for the mining industry of the Far East, taking into account the tasks of its innovative development.

Gasan Gasanbalaev, Director of the Human Resources Development Department of the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, noted the priorities in the work of the consortium.

“It is necessary to train and retrain personnel for the mining industry under additional professional education programs. Today, universities have the necessary material and technical base in order to train qualified personnel. The next step will be to improve the skills of the staff of mining institutes and faculties of specialized universities in the Far Eastern Federal District. The task for the future is to create the necessary infrastructure. Together with companies in the mining industry, we will create industrial sites based on Far Eastern universities. We see these sites as testing grounds for advanced technological solutions in mechanical engineering, digital and information technologies in the mining industry, as starting points for applied research. The Trans-Baikal State University will become the base university of the consortium,” Gasan Gasanbalaev said.
