An international memorandum in the scientific field was signed on the Spitsbergen archipelago

On May 7, a memorandum was signed in Barentsburg between the “Arktikugol” trust as the logistics operator of the International Scientific and Educational Center (ISEC) in Spitsbergen, Murmansk Arctic University (MAU) and Qingdao University (China). The memorandum was signed as part of a plan to create and fill the infrastructure of the ISEC in Spitsbergen.

The purpose of the memorandum is to create a permanent international partnership for work in the Arctic within the framework of the ISEC. This is not only about the exchange of experience and scientific seminars, but about practical work in Spitsbergen: from Arctic medicine and ecology to construction technologies in the Far North, considering the provisions of the 1920 Spitsbergen Treaty and Norwegian legislation in force on the archipelago. The memorandum was signed by Ildar Neverov, Director General of the “Arktikugol” Trust, Dmitry Nesterenko, Vice-Rector of MAU, and Niu Haitao, Vice-Rector of Qingdao University.
