Masterplans and Cultural Heritage: Far Eastern Cities Develop New Approaches to Renovating Historic Sites

The Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC) held an online seminar for regional teams implementing projects involving historical and cultural heritage sites as part of the master plans for the development of Far Eastern cities. The topic of the seminar was "Heritage as an Asset: Attracting Investment in the Development of Historic Centers of Far Eastern Cities."

The event was attended by representatives of government bodies from the Far Eastern Federal District, municipalities, development institutions, architectural firms, organizations responsible for developing creative industries, and urban community activists. Representatives of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI), DOM.RF, and the Agency for the Management and Use of Historical and Cultural Monuments served as experts.

Gasan Gasanbalaev, FEDC Executive Director for Social Development, noted that the seminar became an important platform for exchanging experiences in preserving and developing the historic centers of Far Eastern cities. He also noted that the implementation of master plans for Far Eastern cities includes a range of projects related to the preservation and adaptation of historic buildings, the improvement of public spaces, and the development of cultural centers. Work with cultural heritage sites is considered an important part of the comprehensive development of the urban environment and enhancing the investment attractiveness of the regions.
