FEDC: System support for small-tonnage vessels is key to renewing the Far East fishing fleet

As part of the business program of the "Maritime Congress – Far East 2026," a session entitled "Innovative Technologies for the Far Eastern Fishing Fleet: A Path to Improving Profitability" was held. Dmitry Klyuneev, Director of the Department for Development of the Fisheries Complex, Shipbuilding, and Ship Repair at the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC), spoke at the event, noting that the development of small-tonnage fishing fleets could become a driver of growth for the entire industry.

"The small-tonnage fleet is multifunctional: it performs coastal fishing tasks, can operate in several fishing areas, and act as an auxiliary vessel," noted a representative of the FEDC. However, the average age of such vessels is 30 years, and more than 200 units are scheduled for decommissioning by 2030."

According to Dmitry Klyuneev, the bulk of the fleet being built under the investment quota program are large-capacity vessels, the construction horizon for which has already shifted to 12 years, and this may not be the limit.
