FEDC presented the prospects for ski holidays on Sakhalin Island

The Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (FEDC) took part in the meeting "On the development of domestic tourism in the Russian Federation", which was chaired by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at the year-round resort "Manzherok" in the Altai Republic. Nikolai Zapryagaev, General Director of the FEDC, presented the “Gorny Vozdukh” ("Mountain Air") ski resort, which is located on the largest Russian island in the Pacific Ocean - Sakhalin. “The flow of tourists to the region is growing every year - in the period from January to May 2023 alone, it increased by 39% compared to the same period in 2022, when 186,000 travelers were registered. The key point of attraction is “Gorny Vozdukh” ("Mountain Air"). This is the only ski resort in Russia located in the very center of the city - Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. In terms of the length of the tracks (35 km), it still ranks fourth in the country, but its development is ongoing. Of the 19 tracks, five are certified for international competitions, several hotels with more than 300 rooms are already operating near the resort, jobs have been created for 500 people - and this is only 1/3 of the plans for Mount Bolshevik. Right now, 3 more hotel complexes are being built on the slopes,” Nikolay Zapryagaev said, noting that the project is being implemented within the “Mountain Air” Advanced Development Area created by the Russian Government in 2016.
