The FEDC will assist “Rosatom” State Corporation in choosing the most effective measures of state support for this project in the Russian Arctic. The territory of the Ust-Yansky ulus in the northern part of Yakutia will become the location for the ground-based low-power nuclear power plant.
The project of a low-power nuclear power plant is based on the latest Russian development - a water-cooled nuclear reactor RITM-200N, which is the result of an innovative adaptation of low-power ship-based technology for ground deployment. Reactors of the RITM-200 series have been tested in the harsh conditions of the Arctic on the latest Russian icebreakers and meet all post-Fukushima safety requirements for modern nuclear power plant projects. The plant is characterized by compactness, modularity and reduced construction time compared to high-capacity nuclear power plants.
The investor plans to put the modern nuclear power plant into operation in 2028. To date, the State Corporation “Rosatom” has already received a positive conclusion from the state environmental review on the location of the station, carried out pre-design engineering surveys, launched work on the creation of off-site infrastructure facilities and the construction of a temporary camp for workers.
