A new generation of environmental engineers will begin to be trained for the Far Eastern industry from January 2024

The “Mining Academy” of Transbaikal State University (ZabSU) and the Far Eastern company “Good Ecology” are launching an educational project “Green Personnel in the Mining Industry” as part of the “Priority 2030. Far East” program. The complementary education course was developed for students of Russian universities in order to prepare a new generation of qualified specialists - environmental engineers for the mining, energy and construction industries. The project is being implemented within the framework of the "Leaders of Mining Education" consortium, which was created in 2023 on the initiative of the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC). The new program consists of several modules. Among them are “Mining enterprise as a source of environmental impact”, “Ecology at the stages of investment in a deposit development project”, “Documentary support of an operating enterprise”, and others. The module “International Practices” is dedicated to the environmental agenda at a mining enterprise as a component of ESG principles. Students will become familiar with international standards and features of environmental auditing in this area. The main topics of the “Environmental Risks” module will be rational environmental management, studying the practice of inspecting enterprises, and countering “environmental extremism”.
