An Indian investor plans to launch the production of import-substituting drugs in the Murmansk region

Within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2023, the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (FEDC), the government of the Murmansk region and the “SAFFARM” company, in the presence of the Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, Alexei Chekunkov, signed a cooperation agreement that provides for the construction of a pharmaceutical complex and a plant of active pharmaceutical ingredients. The document was signed by Nikolai Zapryagaev, Director General of the FEDC, Andrey Chibis, Governor of the Murmansk Region, and Kumar Divesh, Director General of “SAFFARM” LLC. As part of the agreement, the parties will cooperate on the terms of a public-private partnership to ensure import substitution of medicines for residents of the Murmansk region and the Northwestern Federal District. The creation of modern high-tech pharmaceutical production will satisfy the domestic demand for antibiotics, vaccines, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, including hormonal and cancer drugs. Import-substituting products will be supplied to public hospitals and pharmacies. A phased - within three years - implementation of the project with a capacity of over 1.3 billion units of medicines and 1.8 thousand tons per year of active pharmaceutical ingredients is envisaged with the possibility of further expansion to 6 thousand tons per year. The launch of the enterprise will make it possible to employ 280 northerners.
