Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation - Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev and General Director of the State Corporation "Roscosmos" Yuri Borisov held a meeting at the «Vostochny Cosmodrome» on the creation of an Arctic satellite constellation for the safety of navigation along the Northern Sea Route.

The head of «Roscosmos» noted that the state corporation considers the provision of the Northern Sea Route as its top priority project. As part of the creation of the Arctic orbital satellite constellation, two «Arktika-«M spacecrafts should be launched into orbit by 2024, which will provide data on the hydrometeorological situation at high latitudes, three radar surveillance spacecrafts: two «Kondor-FKA» spacecrafts, one Spacecraft "Obzor-R". By 2026, four «Express-RV» satellites should be launched into orbit to provide broadband access to the Internet in the Russian Arctic zone.

“Without the creation of an Arctic satellite constellation, the safe passage of ships along the Northern Sea Route is not possible. This work is underway, and a series of satellites will be launched in a few days, which should work for the infrastructure of this global transport corridor. The work of «Roscosmos» is being organized efficiently, the backlogs, that existed, are being reduced, and the launch time for the space constellation in all its directions has been reduced,” said Yury Trutnev.
