Sakhalin continues to implement projects to improve municipal territories. Among the new public spaces opened in the region recently are the roller ski track in the “Yantarny” sports and recreation park in Dolinsk, the Korsakovka River embankment in the city of Korsakov, and the second stage of the Rogatka River embankment in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. Earlier, these projects became winners of the Competition of the best projects for creating a comfortable urban environment for municipalities of the Far East. The competition is held on the instructions of the President of the Russian Federation with the support of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC). Deputy Head of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East Elvira Nurgalieva: "A particular Far Eastern track has been allocated in the All-Russian competition for the best projects to create a comfortable urban environment. This is an indicator of the special attention that the country's leadership pays to work to improve the quality of life in Far Eastern cities, towns, small historical settlements... Before our eyes, the cities of the Far Eastern Federal District are becoming modern, brighter, and more comfortable to live in." The improvement of the Rogatka River embankment is part of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk master plan. The project won the All-Russian competition for the best projects to create a comfortable urban environment in small towns and historical settlements and received funding in the amount of 400 million rubles. Working on the southern side of the river during the first stage was completed in 2023. In 2024, during the second stage, a pedestrian bridge was repaired on the northern side of Rogatka, an alley with an amphitheater was arranged, and a site with a canopy for cultural and entertainment events was built. In general, the project for the improvement of the territory near the Rogatka River is designed for six stages.
