Training of specialists for the mining industry in the Far East celebrates its 300th anniversary

The Russian mining industry is celebrating these days the 300th anniversary of the founding of "mining education" in the Far East. In 1723, in Transbaikalia, in the village of Nerchinsky Zavod, a “Mining School” was opened - the first in Eastern Siberia and in the Far East. The launch of a unique educational project soon brought results: mining volumes increased in Russia, and the country received “homemade” industrial gold. Coins and medals of that time were made from Nerchinsk precious metals. According to the Executive Director for Social Development of the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC), Gasan Gasanbalaev, mining education in Transbaikalia continues to develop. At the initiative of the FEDC, the universities of the Far Eastern Federal District recently created the Consortium “Leaders of Mining Education - Far East”. “Transbaikal State University” became the leading university of the Consortium. The objective of the Consortium is to unite educational, scientific and commercial organizations with mining industry enterprises of the Far East to train engineering personnel taking into account the tasks of innovative development of the mining industry of the macro region.
