GITIS, VGIK, and the B. Shchukin Theatre Institute are welcoming applicants at the Far East

For those seeking a career in the performing arts, the Far Eastern branches of Russia's leading creative universities are opening their doors. At GITIS (Blagoveshchensk), VGIK (Khabarovsk), and the B. Shchukin Theatre Institute (Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk), admissions committees are seeking creative competition entries from future directors, actors, choreographers, sound engineers, and screenwriters.

"This is the second admissions campaign for leading Moscow-based creative universities in the Far East. GITIS, VGIK, and Shchukinsky launched their Far Eastern branches in 2025 at the behest of Russian President Vladimir Putin. We encourage talented young people from Eastern Russia and other regions of the country to give it a try. Obtaining such a high-level education will help train qualified personnel for the Far East's creative industries, which are becoming a fully-fledged part of the macro-region's and the whole country's economy. Furthermore, young people no longer need to leave their regions to enroll in a creative university or find work—all the opportunities for study and work are available in the Far East. These include branches of specialized creative universities and infrastructure for creative businesses," commented Gasan Gasanbalaev, Deputy General Director for Social Development at the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation.
