The Chara Sands and Udokan Copper will form the basis for a new tourism product in Transbaikalia

The visiting session of the Trans-Baikal Foreign Economic Forum "New Horizons" was held in the Kalarsky District from October 13 to 15. The main topic of the event was the development of eco-tourism and industrial tourism in the northern Trans-Baikal Territory, as well as updating approaches to attracting entrepreneurship.

During the session, experts visited several sites that traditionally attract tourists to Transbaikalia, including the world's northernmost desert, the Charskie Peski tract. A key part of the tour was an introduction to the tourism potential of one of the country's largest ore mining and processing facilities, the Udokan Mining and Metallurgical Plant. The plant was established using the benefits and preferences of the “Zabaikalye” ASEZ. With resources of 26.7 million tons, Udokan is the largest copper deposit in Russia. General Director Alexey Yashchuk met with experts at the plant.

Industrial tourism at Udokan Mining and Metallurgical Plant is currently in its early stages. For now, only specially organized groups of schoolchildren and students are allowed to visit the production facility.
