The development of energy infrastructure in remote areas using distributed generation and renewable energy technologies will be discussed at the industry session of FEDC, DPGA (Distributed Power Generation Association), and Business Russia at EXPO 2020 Dubai

On November 18, 2021, 15:00 - 16:30 (UAE time), the EXPO 2020 Dubai business program will host a panel session on “Development of Energy Infrastructure in Remote Areas Using Distributed Generation and Renewable Energy Technologies: the Investment Potential of the Far East and the Arctic” in the conference hall of the Russian National Pavilion. The event will be organized by the Russian Far East and Arctic Development Corporation, the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic, the Distributed Power Generation Association (DPGA) and the All-Russia Public Organization Business Russia.

The purpose of organizing an industry session at EXPO 2020 Dubai is to draw attention to the theme of developing the energy infrastructure of the Russian Far East and the Arctic using global distributed generation and renewable energy technologies, to present the investment potential of the macroregion and to apply the best practices of foreign countries in addressing the issues of energy supply in remote areas.

The Russian Far East and the Arctic are now priority development regions of the Russian Federation and are recognized by the international community as areas with enormous growth potential. The macroregions contain many minerals (oil, gas, precious metals), marine resources, and vast untouched areas. Meanwhile, the regions also face several strategic challenges, including developing modern and efficient energy infrastructure.

The energy sector in the Russian Far East and the Arctic is characterized by a decentralized electricity supply zone with more than a thousand distributed generation facilities. These facilities require timely modernization, and the active development of remote areas involves the construction of new power facilities using modern distributed generation and renewable energy technologies. This area has considerable investment potential, the realization of which will ensure the development of an entire high-tech business sector in the macroregion.

Even today, the Russian Far East and the Arctic are becoming areas of active energy construction, with the world’s leading companies showing interest in the region. The area is expected to be the real and the largest growth point for decades to come in Russia.

According to the organizers, the topics of the session are on a global scale. They are relevant for the Russian Federation and many Nordic countries, the USA, Canada, Denmark, and Norway. In addition, island states, Japan, Indonesia, the Philippines, and New Guinea, with a significant share of local diesel and coal generation, while the distributed energy industry is of considerable interest for international investors in renewable energy sources and energy storage systems energy-efficient technologies.

The special session of the Russian Far East and Arctic Development Corporation, the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic, the Distributed Power Generation Association, and Business Russia will be attended by the heads of the world’s largest energy companies, representatives of financial and investment institutions, and development institutes. Maksim Zagornov, President of the Distributed Power Generation Association and Business Ambassador of Business Russia in the UAE, will moderate the session.

The industry session at EXPO 2020 will be held in preparation for the 25th World Energy Congress, to be held in October 2022 in St. Petersburg. The inclusion of distributed generation in remote and isolated areas in the WEC-2022 program was initiated by FEDC and the Distributed Power Generation Association and supported by the Russian National Committee of the WEC.
