A resident of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation has created a livestock farm and is growing potatoes in Karelia

The “Oma Koti” farm, which received resident status in the Arctic zone of the Russian Federation under an agreement with the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (FEDC), implemented an agricultural investment project in the Kalevala National Municipal District of the Republic of Karelia.

Resident status of the Arctic Zone of the Russian Federation allowed farmer Fyodor Romantsov to obtain 12 hectares of land without a tender and a tax exemption. He also received support from the FEDC, the Government of the Republic of Karelia, and the district administration. This allowed him to build a livestock feed farm, establish potato cultivation, and purchase modern machinery and equipment.

"Last year, we grew 30 tons of potatoes and quickly sold the entire output. We successfully launched a project to breed the Gorno-Altai sheep breed—they produce a stable litter. I believe that this year we'll be able to offer the market not only vegetables and berries—we grow raspberries on part of our land—but also handmade wool products. I hope this business expansion will contribute to the development of agriculture in the Republic," says Fyodor Romantsov.
