10 years of “Hectare” program: Russia's largest region, Yakutia, is the leader in land allocation

On June 1, the “Hectare” program in the Russian Far East and Arctic celebrated a double anniversary – 10 years in the Far Eastern Federal District and five years in the Russian North. During this time, it has become truly popular and effective, providing Russians with the opportunity to obtain land for free for housing construction, business, agriculture, and tourism development.

The program's implementation in the Far Eastern Federal District and the Arctic is overseen by the federal development institute, the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation (a subordinate organization of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East).

According to the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation, approximately 180,000 people have received land plots in the Far East and the Arctic over the ten years of the program's implementation. Nearly 40,000 participants—38,500 people—have already transferred their land ownership or long-term leases. The land plots are primarily used for individual housing construction (53%), agriculture (28%), entrepreneurship (10%), and recreation (7%).
