The development of tourism in the Arctic and the creation of new support tools were discussed at the panel discussion at the SPIEF

Within the framework of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, a panel discussion was held on the topic "The Arctic - the territory of investment opportunities and bright travels." The event, organized by the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East with the support of the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (FEDC), was attended by representatives of the tourism industry, federal and regional authorities, and public organizations. Opening the discussion, Elvira Nurgalieva, Deputy Head of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East, presented the key tools for the development of the Arctic territories and the first results of the application of these support measures. “The Arctic is at the epicenter of world attention, and the Arctic territories make up about a fifth of the territory of Russia. In order to stimulate the development of the Arctic lands, a special economic regime of the Russian Arctic is already operating, two territories of advanced development have been created. Significant tax benefits and administrative preferences are available for resident companies. In addition, the “Hectare” program has been operating here for about two years, every citizen can take land for free. All these tools have activated the tourism industry - residents are implementing 116 investment projects worth 38.6 billion rubles, and every fourth of the 4.8 thousand recipients of "hectares" opens a tourist or recreational project on their land," shared Elvira Nurgalieva. The delegates agreed that the development of tourism in the Arctic should be carried out in a comprehensive manner, with great attention to nature and local cultures. The honorary president of the Alaska Maritime Exchange, coordinator of the working group of the Bering-Pacific Arctic Council from the United States, Paul Fus, concluded that large-scale preparatory work should be carried out for this, and that Alaska, which has similar conditions, could serve as an example.
