A new ship repair facility in the Arkhangelsk region will be able to serve up to 40% of the entire Arctic fleet

During the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2023, the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (FEDC), the Association "Cluster of Shipbuilding and Production of Marine Equipment of the Arkhangelsk Region" and the Government of the Arkhangelsk Region entered into an agreement on cooperation in the creation of a new high-tech full-cycle ship repair enterprise in the region, aimed at repairing and maintenance of the fleet operating in the Western Arctic and along the Northern Sea Route. The ceremony took place in the presence of Alexei Chekunkov, head of the Russian Ministry for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic. According to the document, the parties will direct joint efforts to attract an investor to the project with a total capital investment of up to 50 billion rubles and the creation of up to 3,000 jobs. In the process of creating a ship repair enterprise, it is necessary to carry out large-scale hydraulic engineering works to increase the navigation and draft at the site of new facilities, build two docks with a carrying capacity of up to 6,000 and up to 15,000 tons, a berthing line with a length of up to 1 km for the simultaneous acceptance of at least four vessels of medium 150 meters long, create a complex of workshops to provide a full cycle of repair, maintenance and modernization of ships, ensure the creation of energy and transport infrastructure, equipping with machinery and facilities. The new ship repair complex will be able to serve the target segment, which includes more than 200 ships - sea and mixed navigation - or 40% of the entire Arctic fleet, which, according to experts, will be formed in the amount of 800 ships by 2030 in connection with the implementation of large investment projects and plans for increase in cargo traffic along the Northern Sea Route to 220 million tons by 2035. At present, more than 600 seagoing vessels and ships of mixed navigation of the Arctic fleet are in operation, assigned to the Arctic ports, as well as having received permission to sail in the waters of the Northern Sea Route.
