Minister Alexey Chekunkov: The development of the Arctic determines the character and future of Russia

On February 28, at the International Exhibition and Forum “Russia” on Arctic Day, a live broadcast of the program “Russia in detail with Evgenia Stulova” took place with the Minister of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic, Alexei Chekunkov, who spoke about the development of the Arctic territories of Russia. The minister recalled that the Arctic zone of Russia occupies 30% of the country, and how Russia develops the North determines its character and future. By 2035, it is planned to produce goods worth 111 trillion rubles in the Arctic. Their transportation will be helped by the development of the Northern Sea Route. When discussing the economic profile of the macroregion, Alexey Chekunkov noted that the mining industry, contrary to stereotypes, has very high technological and economic potential. The issues of creating new jobs and finding promising areas for investment remain strategically important. The minister listed a number of achievements related to the Far East. These include, for example, the “Vostochny” cosmodrome, the world's first floating nuclear power plant in Pevek and the construction of four more stations, AAK “Progress” in the Primorsky Region, UAC plants in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant and others.
