On the basis of the agricultural park of the ASEZ resident, Sakhalin State University scientists will work on improving food products for residents of the Far East and the Arctic

A unique laboratory for the development of food biotechnologies is being created on the basis of the new agro-industrial park SAKHPARK, which is being built on Sakhalin by a resident of the "Yuzhnaya" ASEZ under the agreement with the Far East and Arctic Developoment Corporation (FEDC). The author and coordinator of the project, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Anatoly Skalny, says that the idea of creating the "Bioelementology" laboratory appeared 30 years ago. “The laboratory will determine the level of toxic metals in products and prevent their excessive accumulation in the body, as well as saturate products with essential microelements, to solve the real needs of residents of the Far East and the Arctic, and improve the quality and benefits of food consumed,” the professor said. “The activities of the laboratory and associated partner companies will be aimed at improving the nutritional quality of products produced in the Far East and the Arctic, and at improving the health of residents of the regions. It is important that this unique scientific center will become part of the SAKHPARK agro-industrial park. Scientists will work together with food producers, including fishing companies. After all, it is in the waters of the Sakhalin region that a significant share of Far Eastern fish and seafood is produced,” notes the director of the labor force development department of the FEDC Yuri Prokhorov.
